Unfortunately, the mobile phone repairbegins with removing the glass back-cover. For today's common glass-back modern smartphones, for example, iPhone, then you need to tear down the back cover in order to carry out many common repair operations such as charging treasure, motherboard detection, the case repair to complete. However, caution is required in taking off the back cover as some inner artifacts of phone can be damaged along with back glass.
To analyse the differences in removing the back cover of the various models of mobile phones some of the factors which affect the removal process are as below:
Glass back cover: this is very common for modern smartphones (iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, Xiaomi, etc) and essentially you have a glass back cover, which is almost always glued together with an extremely strong adhesive. To take it off you have to heat the glass to soften the adhesive and use suction cups and pry bars to loosen the back cover. (NOTE: Glass back covers are fragile, so take care not to break when removing).
Plastic back cover: Some low-end and mid-range mobile phones (e.g., some Huawei, OPPO, and Vivo models) use plastic back cover. Typically, these back covers use a snap-on design, which requires you to pry the clips open (also, because plastic back covers are easier to remove, the clips are prone to breaking, so do go slow here).
Metal back cover: Some high-end mobile phones are usually used, such as some flagship models, most of which are fixed with screws or clips. (As a side note: on some, you must remove back cover first after unscrewing the screws which can require an additional tool to remove the screws).
Why is back cover glass removal necessary
Replacement of battery: Nowadays, most mobile have inbuilt batteries which require to open the back cover in oder to access or replace the battery.
Main board maintain and inspect: for main board or other internal spare spare parts repair (e.g. processor, memory, camera, wireless module, etc.), first remove the back cover.
Other components/repairs (Camera, Actuator, etc.): Upon removal of the back cover of the phone, the repairer has access to other internal components of the phone like camera module, speaker, wireless charging pad, etc.
Appearance repair In the event of glass back cover damage or cracks, the old glass will need to be removed and new glass applied for a restorative effect.
