How to solder safely?
Preface
soldering iron work is a common and necessary operation in the electronics industry. However, we must follow the safety operation due to high temperature, electric current and other dangerous factors, during the operation.I will introduce the safety operating procedures in full detail, for soldering workers to help operators to improve the safety awareness and skill levels .
Preparations before Operation
1. Wearing Personal Protective Equipment: We should wear heat-resistant gloves, welding masks, protective glasses, and protective clothing to avoid damage from flames, high temperatures, smoke , dust and so on .
2. Checking the condition of Equipment: Before operating, we should check the the welding equipment(the power cord, welding machine...) to ensure that there are no short-circuit, leakage and other hidden hazards.
3. Ensuring the working field is Ventilated: The welding fumes during tin soldering operations are harmful to the body. Therefore,we should make sure that the operating place is well ventilated, and it is best to have smoke exhaust fans to avoid the dangerous fumes.
How to do during the Soldering Process
1. Preventing Burns: We should pay attention to avoid direct contact with the soldering irons tips and workpiece. Put the iron tips on the supporter rather than on the table directly.
2. Preventing Electric Shock : Make sure that the welding machine is well connected to the ground wire . Do remember to put on insulated gloves.
3. Avoiding Fire Accidents: During the operation process, we should keep a certain safe distance between the welding equipment and flammable items to avoid any fires might caused by sparks.
4. Tidying and Cleaning the Operating Table: After welding, we should clean up the solder residues, tin balls and other debris on the operating table.
5. Avoiding the Invasion of Smoke and Dust: A large amount of smoke and dust will be produced during tin soldering operations. We should always be careful to avoid the smoke and dust into our body, which will be harmful to our respiratory system .
6. Avoiding the Hazards of Chemicals: Some chemicals (such as solder paste, cleaners, etc.) in the soldering process are dangerous to the body. We should wear protective gloves and masks to avoid direct contact with chemicals.
7. Pay attention to Fire accidents: We should be able to use the fire-fighting equipment in the operating place, and regularly check to ensure its normal operation.
Handling of Unexpected Situations
1. Burns: If we are unluckily burned by the soldering iron or the welded workpiece,we must immediately rinse the affected area for at least 15 minutes, then cover it with a cold towel and go to the doctor as soon as possible.
2.Treatment for Electric Shock: Once the electric shock accident happened, the power supply should be cut off quickly. If we can not cut off the power in time, we can use an insulating object such as a dry wooden stick or plastic rod o separate the electrocuted person from the power .
